Important message for organizations using Change.org

This is an update about organization accounts on Change.org. As the world’s leading platform for petitions, we are inspired to provide a platform for individuals and organizations to publish petitions and advance their advocacy campaigns.

However, national and regional privacy regulations in many parts of the world are shifting and this means that there are some important changes for current organizational accounts on Change.org. If you manage one of these accounts, there are upcoming changes you should be aware of.

Here’s what’s changing:

After September 15, 2021 you will no longer be able to publish petitions using your current organizational profile. We recognize this is hard news to deliver, but current organizational profiles are no longer compliant with laws in many countries. You will still be able to create petitions, but you will have to create a new profile to do so. You can do that by visiting https://www.change.org/join and clicking “Sign Up”.

We will be disabling the ability to collect new “free opt-ins” on petitions. This piece in particular is a hard benefit to let go of, but we simply can’t sustain this feature amidst changing community standards and expectations around data and privacy across the globe.

There will be no change to petitions that have already been published under your organization profile. You will still be able to access these, place petitions updates on them, declare victory, or make any petition edits.

You will still be able to view and download any organization opt-ins from your organization profile that you’ve received from any previous petition your organization has started. You can also still reach your signers by email by posting an update on your petition.

Again, while you may no longer be able to publish new petitions using an organization account, you can still publish petitions on Change.org on behalf of your organization. To continue publishing petitions on Change.org under an organizational name, you will need to set up a new account to use. You can do that by visiting https://www.change.org/join and clicking “Sign up”.

And if you need any assistance at all or have questions about any of the above, please contact help@change.org. Our team can work with you to field any questions, or to help make this transition as seamless as possible.

Thanks for choosing Change.org for publishing your petitions.
