Change.org hires new Vice President of North America, Bec Wilson

Change.org is pleased to announce the hire of Bec Wilson as the new Vice President of North America. Bec will oversee country operations in the United States and Canada, leading the campaigns, email, membership, and partnerships teams in their mission to support citizen-led and technology-driven social movements.

Bec’s appointment places her at the forefront of a wide diversity of social issues and people-powered campaigns, which regularly find a home on Change.org, like Lane Murdock, who, after the Parkland shootings, started a National School Walkout petition that led to millions of students taking a standing on gun control; Melissa Burnstead, a mom who demanded the Department of Toxic Substance Control clear a former nuclear site near her home when she realized it was the cause of her daughter’s rare cancer; or the almost 2.5 million people who’ve supported Change.org’s petition calling on the Federal Communications Commission to #saveneutrality by keeping the internet free.

From Bec: Every day I’m inspired by the people who stand up for their families and communities and demand change. Having started out in local politics and worked with a variety of campaigns organizations since, I’ve seen the power of ordinary people coming together to demand action. It’s no longer a question that people powered campaigns drive significant, meaningful change across all kinds of issues — and a lot of that takes place on Change.org.

From Ben Rattray: Throughout her career, Bec has consistently shown passion and extraordinary leadership working with people across the globe to harness their collective power.  We are extremely excited to have her take on this role leading a team empowering so many deeply impactful and inspiring campaigns.

Prior to this role, Bec served as the Deputy Executive Director at the Centre for Australian Progress and the Chief of Staff at GetUp, Australia’s most prominent campaigning organizations. She was also a senior advisor to the Independent Mayor of Sydney for nearly eight years.

Check out Bec’s interview with BBC Business Matters, a daily, hour long live news program with a business and economics angle that’s broadcast simultaneously on the BBC World Service and Radio 4. In she discusses the power of Change.org’s platform and the ways everyday people are taking action on issues they care about.
