Ch-ch-ch-ch-Change.org Honors David Bowie

Last week a petition was started in Italy asking us to rename our website ch-ch-ch-ch-change.org in memory of David Bowie.

Petition Starter Emanuele Fiorentino noted Bowie’s early adoption of the internet as a way to connect with his fans as just one reason that renaming our site would be a fitting tribute to the Starman. Three hundred and thirty people agreed.

Guess what? We made it happen. Here’s our Decision Maker response.

Now ch-ch-ch-ch-change.org takes you directly to the Change.org homepage.

This petition was one of more than 200 petitions started in 25 countries in the wake of Bowie’s death on January 10. Those Bowie petitions have gathered more than 110,000 signatures.

Some of these petitions ask for the impossible, such as asking God to send Bowie back, which has been signed by more than 11,000 people.

But most of the petitions request to honor the Starman’s memory with things like postage stampsconstellations, new words in the Oxford English Dictionary, and elements on the periodic table. There also requests for things to be renamed after Bowie including a street in Berlin, the International Space Station, and even Mars, among others.

The most signed petition asks the Bank of England to feature Bowie on forthcoming £20 note. It’s been signed by more than 38,000 people.
