5 Petitions That Could Change the NFL This Year

What do Roger Goodell, fair pay for cheerleaders, breastfeeding, the troops, and Britney Spears have in common? They are all the center of NFL-related petitions on our site right now.

Every year, we see a lot of petitions about football and the NFL, and last year the volume of NFL petitions created nearly doubled. Many of those petitions went on to create real change in the league, including those that altered the league’s tax status and set forth harsher punishments for players who commit domestic violence.

See the 5 ways that you changed the NFL last year.

As the NFL season kicks-off tonight with a match between the Patriots and the Steelers, we thought you’d like to see what might change in the NFL this season, so you can be a part of the conversation.

Here are five petitions that could change the NFL this year:

1. Ask the NFL to stop taking money from our troops

Ceremonies honoring the troops are common at NFL games. They are also paid for by the National Guard. The Sports Fans Coalition is asking the NFL to donate all of the fees collected from these tributes to charities that support the troops.

2. Parents want NFL teams change policies around breastfeeding in their stadiums.

NFL fans are asking teams to support parents by creating designated mother’s rooms or family nurseries in their stadiums to give new moms optional private space to nurse their babies or use a breast pump. The Steelers, Patriots, 49ers, Washington, and the Eagles are all being asked to upgrade their facilities.

3. NFL: Fire Commissioner Roger Goodell

Citing Goodell’s handling of various NFL scandals over the last year – including the Ray Rice video and “Deflategate” – fans are asking for the NFL Commissioner’s resignation.

4. NFL: Pay your cheerleaders a living wage in every state

NFL cheerleaders put lots of time and energy into cheering on their teams, yet they are not all considered NFL employees and few make a living wage. Earlier this year, a bill was passed in California mandating that these women be classified as team employees. Now teams in other states are being asked to do the same.

5. Choose Britney Spears to be the musical act for Super Bowl 50

Every year there are fans who want their favorite artist to take the stage during halftime at the Super Bowl. This year, fans are asking the NFL, CBS, and Pepsi to make Britney Spears the headliner.

What do you want to see changed this NFL season?
