Welcome Gemma Mortensen,’s New Chief Global Officer

We are excited to announce that has hired Gemma Mortensen as Chief Global Officer. Gemma will manage a team of regional directors and take responsibility for global growth of the platform.

Gemma joins in January from Crisis Action, an organisation founded to increase the effectiveness of NGOs working on conflict. Under Gemma’s leadership, Crisis Action received the 2012 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions and the 2013 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship.

Gemma says: “ has proved that you can sustainably scale a business with a genuine social mission – and I am hugely impressed by the innovation and talent in the business and their vision for the future. users have acheived incredible things in a such a short time. The next phase of growth will be transformational for how citizens engage with democracy around the world.

Gemma previously worked for the Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the United Nations in New York, the European Commission, and as a journalist in print, radio and TV. She holds a first class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and European Master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation, and is chair of the Helen Bamber Foundation.
